Pune businessman gets bail in multiple passports case

Multi-millionaire Pune businessman Hasan Ali Khan, who allegedly handles three Swiss bank accounts having deposits to the tune of $8 bn, was today granted bail by a fast track court in Sewree, reports Kanchan Chaudhari.

The court granted the 56-year-old stud farm owner bail on cash of Rs 2 lakh and a surety of Rs 1 lakh, saying the case rests on documentary evidence and his custodial interrogation was not necessary.

The Worli police had on December 15 arrested Khan for possessing multiple passports.

Khan’s counsel, Ishwariprasad Bagaria, contended that the case was based on documentary evidence and there was no need for custodial interrogation.

Ad hoc Judge CK Dhiran directed Khan not to leave India without the court’s permission while on bail, and to report to the Worli police station and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on alternate days for a month.

The ED had moved an application for securing his presence, in case he were to get bail.

Khan allegedly obtained a passport each from Patna and Mumbai despite having an original one from Hyderabad. He had obtained a duplicate passport on his Pune address from the Indian High Commission in London, claiming that he had misplaced the original one.
