Police commissioner AN Roy issued the suspension orders late Friday night on charges of giving undue privileges to the four accused who were charged with stringent sections of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

When contacted, the commissioner said "I have issued the suspension orders last night as I came to know that concerned police officials had given preferential treatment to these accused."

An inquiry is being ordered in this case, he added.

The four accused who were allegedly given special treatment in the court yesterday include Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP) MLA Anil Gote, suspended Assistant Police Inspector of Crime Branch Mumbai Dilip Kamath, Rashid Kulkarni who is the lawyer of the prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi and brother of Telgi Abdul Aziz Telgi.
