Out of the approved posts 5,287 would be filled in 351 newly upgraded senior secondary schools under NABARD scheme and remaining 5423 in the schools upgraded under rationalization policy, an official spokesman said in Chandigarh.

He said that the decision to approve creation of the new posts was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet in Chandigarh on Thursday presided over by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The meeting was, however, boycotted by the ministers belonging to the alliance partner BJP following some tiff between the local bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia and SAD MLA from Adampur Sarabjit Singh Makkar.

To pave the way for the appointment of Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS officer R S Gill as the Director General of Punjab Police, the cabinet also approved to amend Section 6(1) of Punjab Police Act, 2007 by issuing an Ordinance so as to provide that even officers from outside the Punjab cadre could be appointed as Director General of Police in the state.
