YOUTH CONGRESS national general secretary Yogita Nandurkar on Tuesday stated that the proposed hike in reservation for OBC in higher educational institutions was in the party manifesto and it was not motivated by any electoral politics.
Nandurkar, who is also state in-charge of the youth wing of the party, was in the city to preside over a meeting. Talking to newsmen, Nandurkar said, “The stand of Congress party on the reservation issue is clear by its election manifesto.”
Even before the elections, the party made its stand clear on reservation issue and therefore it cannot be dubbed as a vote plank, added Nandurkar.
In reply to a query on the statement given by national president of Mahila Congress Rita Bahuguna against reservation, Nandurkar said, “ The stand taken by the Central leadership on the issue will be final.”
Elaborating on the purpose of the meeting, Nandurkar said the Youth Congress had been entrusted the task of strengthening the party in rural areas of the State.
“ A two-day national convention on June 21 and 22 of block heads of the party has been convened in New Delhi. All 113 block heads from UP will take part in the convention,” informed Nandurkar. She also informed that a membership drive would be launched in July. The YC leader also expressed her concern on the weak position of the party in the State.

On the probability of ticket distribution for the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, Nandurkar firmly asserted that the maximum tickets would be given to leaders of the Youth Congress depending upon their capability.
She said the Youth Congress would highlight issues like deteriorating law and order situation, poor development and unemployment and on the basis of which the Youth Congress would seek votes,” stated Nandurkar.
Earlier, in a meeting it was decided to replace the present Youth Congress in charge of Kannauj Ramji Dixit. The new in-charge would be Rajendra Dwivedi.
While Ekhlaque Ahmad David has been appointed in-charge of the Etawah district.
