Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Sunday inaugurated a channel for the river Ganga to flow to Patna from where it had diverted.
After the inauguration, Rabri, while urging the people to desist from polluting the river, said the Ganga had changed its course over the years due to human activity like dumping of wastes.
RJD President Laloo Prasad Yadav, meanwhile, attacked the NDA, particularly the BJP, for alleging the state government had been making money in the name of bringing the Ganga back to its shores in Patna.
Bihar Minister for Water Resource Development Jagdanand Singh said the state government succeeded in its endeavour by spending just Rs 25 lakh as against Rs 84 lakh earmarked for the project.
Singh said the Centre had cleared a project worth Rs 28 crore to bring the river back to Patna but it failed to release funds for the same. Thereafter the state government took the initiative, Singh added.
