Congress workers from all over the country on Sunday created a storm just before the inauguration of the Congress plenary session, demanding that the scion of the Gandhi family and Amethi MP be seated on the dais in the company of his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other senior party leaders.

The political heir apparent of the Nehru-Gandhi family was the cynosure of all eyes at the 82nd AICC plenary as party workers reiterated their demand that the 34-old young MP be inducted into the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and also entrusted with an organisational responsibility.

Dressed in a spotless white kurta-pyjama, Gandhi, however, preferred to sit quietly away from the dais in the company of middle-level Congress leaders.

Suddenly, all the nearly 10,000 delegates at the meet joined the chorus, prompting AICC general Secretary Janardhana Dwivedi to request Gandhi to come to the dais and accept the greetings of the party cadres.

The youthful leader then came to the dais and waved at the gathering. He also promised the delegates that he would address them on Monday.

This was followed by slogans like "Rahul Gandhi Zindabad (long Live Rahul Gandhi)," and the proceedings started smoothly after that.

Meanwhile, partymen from Rae Bareli, Sultanpur and Amethi circulated a resolution, echoing the demand for the induction of the Gandhi scion into the CWC, among the mediapersons.
