National BJP vice-president Prabhat Jha said he will file a defamation suit against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for using the word rape in the wrong spirit while addressing tribals in Shahdol recently. He said he will serve legal notice to Gandhi before filing defamation case in Bhopal court.

Talking to mediapersons on Monday, Jha quoted Gandhi, saying that in his address, the latter asked tribal women, “Did rape take place?” “You cannot ask women whether they were raped. This is violation of laws provided to protect the dignity of women,” he said quoting CrPC sections. “This is mental bankruptcy and an insult to 23% tribals in MP,” he remarked.

However, Jha had no appropriate answer when asked about rising rape cases in Madhya Pradesh or the BJP leaders supporting men like Asaram, the tainted self-styled Godman charged with rape and sexual harassment. Responding to a query, he called Gandhi a festival boy who reaches out to party’s rank and file and people on special occasions like elections.

“He doesn’t know the names of party office-bearers in states. If you ask me, I know them by names,” he said. Jha avoided replying when asked how many people in the BJP do dynasts like Akash Vijayvargiya, son of state industries minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Mandar Mahajan, son of MP Sumitra Mahajan, know by names.

CONG HITS BACK AT JHA

Taking a dig at Jha’s criticism about Rahul Gandhi’s remark on rape during his address to tribals, the Congress has said Gandhi has presented the true picture of MP.

“Jha has made remark against Rahul Gandhi out of frustration,” party spokesman Narendra Saluja stated in a press release. Raising counter question, the Congress said Jha should answer why he was removed from the post of state BJP president?
