In signals that a Kamaraj-type plan envisaging shift of senior party leaders from ministry to organizational work could be on the cards, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said young people do not feel part of politics and wanted "more access" to decision-making.
The AICC General Secretary, who is being projected by the party as the potential Prime Minister, said the complaints he was getting are regarding the "distance of the political class from young people....They do not feel part of politics".
Gandhi, who is in charge of Youth Congress and NSUI, told reporters at a luncheon hosted by AICC Media Department chairman M Veerappa Moily that what the youngsters wanted was access to politics.
"The general issue with the youth is: more access to politics, more access to decision-making and a new type of thinking", the heir apparent of the Gandhi-Nehru family said.
Late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj had brought out a plan in 1963 which prpoosed resignation of all senior Congress leaders from the ministry to devote their time fully for the party. The Plan was brought in the backdrop of defeat in the 1962 war with China to invigorate the party.
Gandhi's remarks came at a time when there is a talk of changes in AICC as also in the government to make the organisation fighting fit ahead of assembly polls in nine states this year and the Lok Sabha polls next year.
