Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said he would not be deterred by the criticism of opposition parties, which had ridiculed his visits to villages as “dramatics”, and vowed to work for the poor.
“Whenever I go around the country, my endeavour would be to visit the houses of the poor people, hold their hands, talk to them and understand their problems. But the opposition leaders who sit in air-conditioned rooms try to ridicule me saying I am indulging in some dramatics,” the 38-year-old Congress general secretary said on the second day of his campaigning in Andhra Pradesh.
Rahul said his critics “see poor only through the eyes of the rich and fail to appreciate my vision. As long as we don’t see the world through the eyes of the poor, we can’t lead this country forward.
“We have strong belief in the poor man of this country. The Congress strongly believes that the country would progress only if the poor man progressed,” Rahul said at election rallies at Godavarikhani in Karimnagar and Biknoor in Nizamabad districts on Saturday.
Rahul has been harping on the issues of poverty and development at the eight meetings in the state which have failed to attract large crowds.
