Agriculture experts were of the view that recent rainfall in the region would prove to be a boon for standing crops and also overcome the apprehension of drought like situation in this particular region.

“It is time for standing crop of paddy to contain grains of paddy so that recent rainfall in this region is good for the paddy crops,” an official of joint director office (Agriculture), CB Singh told Hindustan Times on Monday.

“Humidity is good for the standing crop of paddy,” he said. Besides rainfall, the cloudy weather continued to hover in Varanasi and its adjoining areas.

Prof Ramesh Chand, a faculty member of the Institute of Agriculture Science (IAS) in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) said that this recent rainfall has saved standing crops of paddy from drying.
