For the past one week, the temperature in most part of northern India hovered between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius. The intense heat wave and humid atmosphere had made life difficult for the people.

Although the residents of Gurgaon were anxiously waiting for the monsoon, now they are concerned over waterlogging and blockage of sewer lines in many areas due to poor road condition and ill-maintained drainage systems.

With the onset of rain on Friday evening, several roads were submerged, disrupting vehicular movement in the peak hour of traffic.

However, the power demand which had reached its peak has decreased with sudden dip in temperature.

People were seen enjoying the rain by getting drenched. Some of them embraced the cool weather sitting on their terrace or balcony and relishing snacks.

"Today's rain actually brought a respite. I was out on the road with my friends and I enjoyed the weather by taking bath in the rain," said Shilpa Mehta, a student.

The weather department has predicted that the Millennium City will witness an average amount of rainfall during this season.

Some experts say the city may receive 10% less rain fall as compared to last year.
