Moderate to heavy rain lashed many parts of north India for the third consecutive day on Saturday, causing mercury to dip by a few degrees.
The city was lashed by 39 mm of rains during the past one day and the maximum temperature dropped by a degree below normal at 31.8 degrees celsius, the Meteorological Department said in Chandigarh.
Heavy rains lashed Shimla (36 mm) during the day and the residents experienced a cold day as the mercury dropped to 19.8 degrees celsius.
Una in HP was the wettest town receiving a heavy rainfall at 71 mm while Sundernagar (17.9 mm), Pandoh (18 mm), Kasol (51 mm), Kahu (53 mm), Berthin (17.6 mm), Sujanpur Thira (21.5 mm), Nadaun (39.5 mm), Guler (47 mm), Nagrota Surien (31 mm) and Gamrur (13.8 mm) also received moderate to heavy rainfall.
Panchkula, Kalka and Ambala in Haryana also received rains. The maximum at Ambala was recorded at 33.7 C while Karnal also registered a similar high at 33.5 C.
In Punjab, Patiala (13.1 mm), Nangal Dam area (27.1 mm) and Ludhiana were lashed by rains. The maximum at Ludhiana settled at 34.5 C while Amritsar, which remained dry, saw the mercury touch 36.6 C.
Meanwhile, MET has issued a heavy rain warning likely at isolated places in HP, north and north-east parts of Punjab and north-east Haryana over the next two days.
