Rains continue to lash Nasik; rivers flooded

Nasik has received an average rainfall of 655.1 mm in comparison to 351.3 mm previous year.

Incessant rains continued to lash Nasik and almost all tehsil towns in the district for the second consecutive day on Thursday, with rivers Godavari, Aaram, Mosam, Girna overflowing after water was released from Gangapur, Darna, Chankapur dams, district authorities said.

As per official figures, Nasik district till July 27 has received an average rainfall of 655.1 mm in comparison to an average of 351.3 mm the same day previous year.

Till Wednesday, Igatpuri taluka recorded 1983 mm of rain, Trimbakeshwar 1723 mm, Surganas 1746 mm, Peint 1388.2 mm and Nasik 521.8 mm, they added.

An official report stated that tribal dominated Nandurbar district was experiencing heavy rain for past 24-hours and Collector of Nandurbar Sanjay Khandare has alerted the people there as well as others residing on river banks in the district, as heavy rain was expected in next 48-hours.

Government machinery is ready to face any eventuality and tehsil town-wise control rooms have been set up in Nandurbar district, Khandare added.

Several trains, which were halted at various stations, were sent back to their originating point on Wednesday, according to sources.

Milk tankers as well as vegetable trucks could not reach Mumbai as Mumbai-Agra National Highway was flooded near Shahapur.
