Commuters in Noida had a harrowing time on Tuesday as heavy rains flooded roads, causing traffic snarls in various parts of the city.
The monsoon showers, which started at around 4 pm, resulted in flooding of streets at several intersections across the city.
Hundreds of motorists got stuck in jams as waterlogging slowed down traffic at NH-24, sectors 62, 63, 22, 12, 19, 18, 125, the Noida expressway, the DND flyway and the both entry gates of Noida. “Traffic snarls were reported almost from all sectors of Noida,” said a traffic police official.
Commuters going their homes struggled through the heavy traffic in the evening. Adding to their woes, most traffic lights stopped functioning after the heavy rains. “The roads were flooded after the downpour and caused traffic chaos. It took me more than an hour to reach home at Sector 19 from Sector 63,” said Anand Kumar, a commuter.
NP Singh, president of Federation of Noida RWAs, said, “Due to poor cleaning work done by the authority, residents have to suffers. All the claims of authority officials have been exposed now. Waterlogging is a clear evidence for choked drains.”
Potholed roads in various sectors aggravated the problems of two-wheelers as they found it difficult to drive. “Due to heavy traffic and waterlogging, my motorcycle has broken down on the way. I have to reach Patel Nagar but every road to the destination is blocked,” said Aditya Vasistha, who commutes from Sector 58 to Delhi.

{{/usCountry}}Most of the busy crossings of the city witnessed complete collapse of traffic lights. Due to rainfall around half a dozen traffic lights in the city went dysfunctional. Traffic signals at Mamura Chowk, Labour Chowk, sectors 82, 93, Atta, Khoda T-point and Nithari Crossing were not working. Commuters alleged that policemen were not deployed to manage the traffic.
