Rallies, dharnas mark Labour Day

DIFFERENT TRADE unions of organised and unorganised sectors took out processions, rallies and staged dharnas at separate places in Varanasi on Monday to mark the International Labour Day (Mazdoor Diwas). Asmita, a social organisation, engaged in the uplift of domestic workers of unorganised sectors which also runs the UP chapter of National Domestic Workers Movement (DWM), UP, observed ?Mazdoor Diwas? at the district headquarters here.

DIFFERENT TRADE unions of organised and unorganised sectors took out processions, rallies and staged dharnas at separate places in Varanasi on Monday to mark the International Labour Day (Mazdoor Diwas).

Asmita, a social organisation, engaged in the uplift of domestic workers of unorganised sectors which also runs the UP chapter of National Domestic Workers Movement (DWM), UP, observed ‘Mazdoor Diwas’ at the district headquarters here.

Several social workers also assembled at Kachahri to observe Labour Day.

Founder of Asmita Father Dilraj and others addressed the domestic workers and strongly criticised employment of children in domestic work, violence and abuse of women and children in domestic work.

The institution also handed over a charter of demands to the officials of the Deputy Labour Commissioner Office and the district administration on the occasion.

The Northern Railway Men’s Union took out a procession in Varanasi to mark the occasion. The procession was taken out from the office of Men’s Union, after covering several places it culminated at RMS offices where a joint meeting was organised with other unions. Prominent among those who addressed the meting included, Dr Pradeep Sharma, Umesh Chandra Srivastava, SK Singh, Rajesh Singh, SN Naqvi. The activists of Central Government Employees’ Coordination Committee took out a procession and organised a meeting at Nadesar area to mark the occasion.

A large number of labourers under the banner of Ashray Adhikar Manch took out a procession and organised a meeting at the district headquarters to mark the occasion.

Prominent among those who addressed the meeting included, State president of Kisan Manch, Ashok Singh, Monica Tiwari, Dr Roli, Dr Lenin and Rajesh. The volunteers of Prerna Kala Manch and Paharua staged a street play to mark the occasion.
