Sulking Congress leader Narayan Rane withdrew his resignation as state industries minister and ended his ‘revolt’ on Tuesday without being offered any new post by the Congress, solely on the assurance of getting dignity in the party.

For the fire brand former Sena chief minister, who joined Congress in 2005 with 8 to 10 legislators, this turn around is a huge embarrassment and indicative of his party’s losing streak.

The withdrawal comes after Congress gave him a cold shoulder for nearly two weeks and party president Sonia Gandhi refused to meet him or address his demands. It is also said that he was also left with no other options after BJP decided not to upset its ally Sena by taking him in its fold.

However, sources close to Rane said that Congress has promised him the post of campaign committee chief, a job he had termed as ‘useless’ in his interview to HT recently. His younger son Nitesh Rane has also been promised an assembly ticket.

Speaking to the media at his official residence in Malbar Hill, he added that he would embark on a campaign tour for the party on Wednesday.
