Rane not happy with results in Vidharba

Maharashtra Revenue minister has said that suicides of farmers have not come down to numbers we were expecting. Along with debts, there are other social problems also which have resulted in suicides.

Maharashtra Revenue minister Narayan Rane has said that state government has not achieved expected results in eliminating farmer problems and suicides in Vidharba despite having spent substantial amount of funds from special packages announced for peasants in the region.

Speaking at a press conference in the Divisional Commissionerate in Amravati on Thursday, Rane conceded that funds from the state package have been entirely exhausted while 84 per cent funds from PM package have been utilised to reduce farmer woes in six districts of Vidharba region.

"But, the expected output has not been achieved. Suicides of farmers have not come down to numbers we were expecting. Along with debts, there are other social problems also which have resulted in suicides. In the remaining period of the package, we would now address all such problems through farmer-orientation by organising constructive projects," he said.

Rane said that about 55 per cent suicides result from social problems and promised more funds to stop the trend, while assuring that the state government was working constantly in this direction.

Commenting on his stand in the Videocon issue, Rane said that he was firm on his decision.

Once a thing is opposed, there will be no second thoughts on the issue, he said adding "I am not the person who comes one step back everytime. The struggle is still on."
