Rape victim identifies Kasliwal in court

Clad in a burkha, she reappeared in court after exactly two years and eight months later. The woman (now 55), who was allegedly raped by the scion of Shree Ram Mills, Abhishek Kasliwal, deposed before the trial court and identified him on Friday.
She narrated to the court the entire incident that took place on the night of March 11, 2006.
Special Public Prosecutor Usha Makasare examined the alleged rape victim and an in-camera trial took place in a closed courtroom.
Also present there were the judge, Kasliwal and his lawyers.
Dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, Kasliwal sat quietly through the court proceedings, court sources who were present in the room said on condition of anonymity.
In her testimony, the victim supported the prosecution’s case and told the court that Kasliwal had told her that his name was Vicky Malhotra.
She also narrated the manner in which she had been taken to the Shree Ram Mills compound in Worli on March 11, 2006.
The victim’s examination went on for over a couple of hours. She will continue with the deposition on July 2.
According to the police, Kasliwal had driven the victim to the Worli mills where he allegedly raped her.
In June 2006, the police filed a chargesheet against Kasliwal.
Kasliwal had been charged with rape, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.
In April 2006, the court granted bail to Kasliwal, but barred him from entering the city limits and had directed the police to provide protection to the victim till the end of the trial.
The trial began on March 24, 2008. However, since then the prosecution had been seeking adjournment in the case as the victim was untraceable.
On April 29, 2009, the court granted permission to Kasliwal to enter the city.
