The campaign against AIDS has got a new ambassador. On Sunday in Bhubaneswar, the demon king was seen telling people to get ready to fight the greatest evil — HIV virus.
Prahalad Nayak, a post-graduate in music from Utkal University, staged a 30-minute play titled Ravana’s Last Words in prominent puja pandals of the city.
Nayak portrayed the main protagonist and after the street play, arranged a question answer session with puja revellers on how to prevent AIDS. “You have come to see Ravana’s decimation. But AIDS is more dangerous than Ravana. And the battle against AIDS has to be fought more ferociously than the battle that Lord Ram fought against Ravana,”
Nayak told HT: “I decided to stage the play in puja pandals as people from all age groups and all sections of society come here. Had I gone to a college, I would have communicated with only a particular age group. Here, I could interact with entire families. I told parents not to have reservations about discussing AIDS with their children,” he added.
Nayak has set up an organisation called ‘Vande Mataram’ that highlights social evils like dowry, female foeticide, etc. However, this is not what he does for a living. He drives an auto-rickshaw to earn his daily bread.
