Charges had been framed against him under the Excise Act after 14 bottles of foreign liquor were recovered from his house during a raid by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau last year.
The court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Sanjay Sandhir discharged him of the charges when the Excise Department produced the licence for life permitting him to keep liquor.
Sidhu had been arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on charges of
corruption while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh at his residence in
Sector 39 on March 25, 2002.
In addition, 250 rounds of a 12-bore gun and 225 rounds of a Springfield rifle were also recovered from his house.
