A body of a marketing executive working for a global real estate firm was found in Sector-29, Gurgaon, early on Tuesday. The victim, Parveen Chawla (28), worked as assistant manager (marketing) with Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj.
His body, which had multiple bullet wounds, was found in the rear seat of his WagonR car. Chawla was working with the firm for the last two years and lived in Sector 5, Gurgaon.
Police officials investigating the case said bruises on the body indicated that the assailants tortured Chawla before shooting him.
Police said the assailants tried to mislead them by demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from Chawla’s father to make it appear like an abduction case. The police have ruled out the possibility of robbery and said they suspected the hand of someone known to Chawla behind the murder.
All belongings, except for his mobile phone, were found intact. Quoting the post-mortem report, police officials said the assailants fired four to five bullets on him and wanted to kill him brutally.
According to Station House Officer of Sector 29 Jagdish Prasad, who is investigating the case, Chawla left his office at Global Business Park, MG Road, at 4.30 pm to meet a client in DLF Aralias on Golf Course Road. “Parveen left with Amit Kumar, a colleague. The two had liquor at a roadside eatery after the meeting. Amit told us that he left Chawla at around 7.15 pm after Chawla got a call from Ajit Rathee, an old friend,” said Prasad.

“Rathee told us that he and Parveen went to another dhaba on the Golf Course Road where they again had alcohol till about 9.30 pm. He told us that they drove back to their Sector-5 house soon after. According to Rathee’s version, Parveen followed his car till South City and then disappeared,” the police said.
Chawla’s father M.L. Chawla received a call from his son at 7.30 pm saying he would be back by 9.30 pm. Police suspect that around 10.30 pm, Chawla was overpowered by assailants while he was talking to his fiancée and colleague Sabina on the phone.
“Sabina told us Chawla was talking to her when someone snatched the phone from him and demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom to release him,” said Prasad.
Police said Sabina also called up Chawla’s father and informed him about the phone conversation. “At around 10.40 pm, Chawla called on his son’s mobile phone and an unknown voice answered demanding a ransom to be sent to Rajasthan,” said Prasad.
