The record-breaking knock of Virender Sehwag and his marathon partnership for the third wicket with Sachin Tendulkar sent the statisticians scurrying after the record books on Monday.

Sehwag's 309 was the first triple century by an Indian in Test cricket which surpassed VVS Laxman's 281 against Australia at Kolkata in 2000-01 as the country's highest Test individual score.
India's 675 for 5 declared was its highest total against Pakistan, bettering the 539 for 9 decl in Chennai in 1961. It was also India's third highest ever against any country.
The 336-run partnership between Sehwag and Tendulkar was India's best ever for the third wicket stand, bettering the 316 between Gundappa Viswanath and Yashpal Sharma scored against England at Chennai in 1981-82.
The previous highest for the third wicket of 190 shared by Yashpal Sharma and Mohinder Amarnath against Pakistan at Lahore in 1982-83 fell by the way side.
