Putting up a brave face even as four MPs deserted him, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday said his party was united and accused the Left parties of coming together with the BJP to target him.

"We wanted to clarify that the SP is united," Yadav said addressing a press conference in New Delhi.

He said that the MPs who had deserted the party have done so for some "vested interests".

"For example, the Hamirpur MP (Raj Narain Budholiya) wanted to save a contract, that is why he joined the BSP," Yadav alleged.

Hitting out at the Left, the SP chief said, "I am surprised and upset at the Left coming together with the BJP to ensure the fall of the government".

"The Left and the BJP was earlier trying to make me the Prime Minister. But now the very same Left parties are targeting me," he said.
