National secretary of the All India Congress Committee P. Sudhakar Reddy expressed confidence here on Monday that the Congress would sweep the coming assembly polls in five states- Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry. He said the directive of the Election Commission to check bogus voting in West Bengal would pave the way for the party to come to power there.
Talking to mediapersons here this morning, Reddy said the organisation had been rejuvenated in the eastern states to be able to register a remarkable victory in the assembly elections. The Congress would sweep four states- Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry while it would perform very well in West Bengal as the Left governments earlier won the election on the basis of bogus voting.
Now the Election Commission had intervened to curb bogus voting there, benefiting the Congress which would win in the majority of the constituencies, he said and added that the common people in West Bengal were fed up with the persistant misrule of Leftist governments.
Commenting on the recently concluded AICC session in Hyderabad, he said that party activists from all over the country voiced the demand that Rahul Gandhi be entrusted with some major responsibility. He predicted that Rahul would soon play a vital role in the Indian politics as per the demand of the youths across the country. He was being perceived as the second Rajiv Gandhi in the country, Reddy said.
In view of the coming elections, the Congress workers were disseminating information about the UPA Government’s welfare and developmental schemes for the masses, which were brainchild of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, he said.
