STATE CONGRESS president Salman Khurshid has confirmed that small regional parties are in touch with the Congress for a tie-up.
“They want sops for the communities they represent. We are considering their proposal,” he told newspersons here.
Ruling out an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the assembly elections, he said the Congress was a better alternative to the Samajwadi Party than the BSP.
He said, “We have already chalked out a well thought-out strategy and the party is moving towards its goal.”
“We will take feedback from various quarters before giving tickets.”
He predicted the Samajwadi Party would lose power after the polls.
He alleged most of the backward class candidates recruited to the police and the PAC belonged to a particular caste and they paid Rs 2 lakh each.
No section of society was pleased with the present State government, he claimed.
Earlier, Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot said at a rally in Mehta Park that a pro-change wave was visible in the State. He said the Congress was set to return to power in the State after a 16-year hiatus.
He also said no government could be formed without the help of the Congress.
Former MP Santosh Singh, party leader Raj Bahadur Singh and Baldeo Chaudhary also spoke on the occasion. Ejaz Ahmad presided over the meeting.
