The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said on Tuesday that it has raised the earlier cap of 100 messages a day from a given number following requests from mobile phone operators and users.

"The authority has received representations from some service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM. The authority has decided to increase the limit," Trai said in a statement.

It had clamped the 100 SMSes limit in September.
