According to a police statement, 18-year-old Iqra Nissar Khan was killed purportedly by a relative, Nasir Bashir Sheikh, a resident of Joyibal Veeri in the same area.

Though police said mere "jealousy"could be the motive behind the murder, other angles were also being investigated.

The body of the teenager was found by locals on January 30.

Police later said she was strangulated and tortured to death.

According to the statement, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe into the case.

During the course of investigation, all identified suspects were taken into custody for questioning.

"However, during questioning Nasir Bashir Sheikh broke down and confessed to have murdered the girl,"said the police statement.

"It has been surfaced that jealously was the main reason behind the murder; however, all angles are also being investigated,"the statement added.

A case under Section 302 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) has been registered against the accused at the Anantnag police station.
