Relatives to get Rs 50,000 on prisoner?s death

On the occasion of Prisoners’ Benefit Day on the Bhopal Jail premises, Chouhan inaugurated sports competitions and a painting exhibition on the jail premises. He watched cultural programmes and ‘Malkhamb’ performed by prisoners.
Lauding the talent of prisoners, the Chief Minister said every person had creativity deep inside but circumstances forced people to become criminals.

Chouhan announced reduction of six months from the term of lifers and two months from the term of other prisoners. He said that efforts would be made to convert jails into reform homes.

He announced that the Jabalpur jail will be named after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The Chief Minister said efforts were being made to fill vacancies for the post of jail guards.

Chouhan released a book written in Bundeli by a prisoner Deshraj on the occasion. Presiding over the function Jail Minister Antar Singh spoke about the steps being taken to streamline functioning of jails in the State. He also participated in the Bhagoria dance presented by Indore circle prisoners.

MP Human Rights Commission member Narayan Singh Azad, Madhya Pradesh Social Welfare Board chairperson Usha Bharat Chaturvedi, Jail and Transport Principal Secretary Malay Kumar Rai and Jail Superintendent Gopal Tamrakar were present on the occasion.
