"The support of religious fundamentalists and communal forces to the violent incidents in Orissa is highly regrettable," he said.

In the name of vengeance, religious fundamentalists had let loose violence on innocent people and the saddest part was that some religious leaders and those running religious organisations were supporting this type of violence, he said.

Writing in the DMK's official organ 'Murasoli', he said that the entire country knew who started the violence in Orissa. Right thinking people were working towards peace in that state, he said.

On AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa's statement that she had been acquitted from the 'false cases' filed against her, he said the Supreme Court's strictures on her in the TANSI land deal itself was proof that the cases were not foisted on her.
