In a letter to the PM, copies of which were released to the media, he slammed the Union minister for “unsavoury utterances” in the wake of the attack on women at a pub in Mangalore, and abduction and assault of Shruthi, daughter of CPI(M) legislator C.H. Kunhambu, and her friend Shabeeb on the outskirts of the coastal city.

“Even though the state government has taken immediate and effective steps in both these cases, Renuka Chowdhury has been politicising the issue unnecessarily,” he said.

“She (Renuka) has been giving objectionable statements to the press every now and then. Under these circumstances, I request you to suitably advise your cabinet colleague not to indulge in such gimmicks,” Yeddyurappa added.
