RESPONDING TO the all India Reserve Bank Retirees’ Welfare Association, the local chapter members held a demonstration today in front of Reserve Bank of India’s Bhopal office.
The association also held demonstrations at other RBI offices as a mark of protest against Union Government’s instruction to the RBI to cancel the increase in basic pension amount of pensioners.
Treasurer of the MP-CG chapter of the association, PD Kothari said in 1992 under a settlement the basic was revised. Similarly, the Government has also revised the pension of its employees as per the Fifth Pay Commission, whereas it does not want RBI pensioners to get the benefit. Kothari said there are 17,000 retired RBI employees in the country and a large number belong to 1987-88 retirement batch.
“It’s not at all feasible for the pensioners to repay the excessive amount of pension received by them above the pension rate to the RBI as per the government’s instruction,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the retirees after the demonstration handed over a memorandum to regional director of RBI, Bhopal, which in turn would be forwarded to RBI governor.
