Kashmir witnessed a normal day on Monday, second in the last three days, with Hurriyat leaders easing shutdown calendar for a day and the state government responding with relaxing security restrictions and curfew completely.
In the last three weeks, Monday was first normal working day with all schools, varsities, government and corporate offices functionally normally.
The decision not to impose restrictions was taken after assessing the law and order situation on late Sunday evening, government sources said.
The relaxation in shutdown calendar and curfew spurred rush on valley streets with vendors, banks, grocery and medicine shops doing brisk business. Traffic was also plying on all routes.
But the relief may be short lived because the hardliner Hurriyat, led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, may issue another protest calendar by tomorrow. With the harvesting season at its peak and the examinations of varsities and colleges round the corner, the Hurriyat may be forced to rethink its protest politics.

{{/usCountry}}Moderate Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Monday launched a scathing attack on the state government over continuous curfew. “Such tactics were adopted in the past also but it has failed to suppress people’s sentiment and movement,” said Mirwaiz in a press statement.
