Sources in MP Western Region Electricity Distribution Company maintained that this would be a retrograde step as old officers and employees are comparatively less efficient hence the purpose of betterment of services to consumers will be defeated. Consumer services in the MPSEB have been adversely affected in the absence of recruitment for more than 10 years.

But increasing retirement age will prove expensive to MPSEB as old staff are less efficient and their salary is about four times higher than the fresh staff. This step will not solve the purpose of betterment of services to consumers.
Direct consequence of extending retirement age will be that no one in MPSEB will retire for next two years.

About 15 percent officers and employees fall in this category. They will get new lease of life at the expense of young officers and employees who might have been recruited otherwise.
