A month ago, the Delhi police claimed to have neutralised a gang, the members of which posed as policemen to cheat women in the Capital, when they smashed a Mumbai-based group of Iranian origin.
But a couple of similar incidents reported in the past few days seems to punch holes in the claims of the police.Two elderly women, including the wife of a deputy general manager of a leading infrastructural industrial conglomerate, have become the latest victims of probably the same gang which south Delhi police claimed of having busted on March 31.
The gang members, who would fly to Delhi from Mumbai for committing crimes, were involved in almost a dozen cases of cheating reported in the city. Hindustan Times was the first to report about this interstate gang in January.
A senior police officer who was part of the team that busted the gang said, “We had only arrested four members of the gang. But there are groups of people living in Mumbai's Thane area who are involved in similar crimes. We are looking for them.”

{{/usCountry}}The latest among the two incidents was took place in west Delhi’s Janakpuri on Thursday afternoon where the 55-year-old wife of a private company's deputy general manager was conned by three men who claimed to be Delhi police officers.
The victim, identified as Suman Vinayak, was conned into wrapping her jewellery in a piece of newspaper after the trio, posing as policemen, warned her about the lack of safety in their area.
Suman told Hindustan Times that she was returning home from a temple that was some 100 meters away from her house in Janakpuri Block B.
“I was walking home when two youths stopped me, saying they were policemen. They asked me to meet a senior officer who was a standing at some distance. I went there and that youth asked me to keep my gold chain and bangles in my bag. They said a woman had been stabbed in the area and her jewellery stolen,” said Suman, adding the men had shown her their identity cards.
“They gave me a newspaper and asked me to wrap my jewellery in it. While I was wrapping it, one of them took it from my hand saying he could wrap the jewellery better. He returned it to me and left with the other two. I was shocked when I found that my jewellery was replaced with wooden bangles,” said Suman. She lodged a complaint at the Janakpuri police station but no FIR was registered.
Zareena, 70, a resident of Chandni Chowk area was similarly conned by three men when she had gone to the LNJP hospital for the treatment of her daughter-in-law.
“They duped her of her gold bangles after warning her that she might be robbed by some criminals who were active in the area," said a police officer.
