Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt on Sunday said his “return” to the Congress was on the advice of Amar Singh, the leader of the new party Rashtriya Lok Manch.

“It was Amar Singh who advised I should return to the Congress. He reminded me owing to my family’s long association with the party, the Congress to me is like blood flowing in my veins,” Dutt told reporters in Allahabad.

Dutt, 53, who had arrived in Allahabad on Saturday to campaign for the Congress, said, “I was livid at the way Amar Singh was insulted by the Samajwadi Party.”

“After all he had done so much to help the party reach where it is today. That is why when he was shown the door, I too quit the party.”

“Later, when we were discussing our strategy, Singh suggested I should return to the Congress.”

In his public meeting in Allahabad on Saturday evening, Dutt said he had come to UP to fulfil the mission of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

He began with a dialogue from his latest film Agneepath — ‘Kya Lekar Aaya Hai, kya Lekar Jayega…’ —and added this was a teaching from the sacred Hindu book, The Geeta.

He was here to canvass for the Congress candidate Chaudhary Jitendra Nath Singh, who is contesting from the Allahabad South constituency.
