A business hotel has decided to buck the trend of serving Japanese, Thai and Italian cuisine at buffets and instead return to Indian roots and launch a chai and pakoda teatime buffet.
The four star Hotel Peninsula Grand at Sakinaka Junction, Andheri (East) is holding its Flavoured Tea Festival for three months until July 31.
The festival is offering an array of single origin and flavoured teas, as well as pakodas and other Indian snacks. The unlimited buffet is being held at Carafe, the 24-hour coffee shop, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm every day.
Teas include Chamomile, Earl Grey, Classic Assam, Jasmine, Peppermint and Green Tea.
Snacks on offers include pakodas and Indian biscuits, cakes, cookies, brownies and sandwiches. The unlimited buffet costs Rs 150.
Food and beverage manager at the hotel, Prathamesh Divicha, explains: “People don’t have nice places to go and sit at in this area of Mumbai at a reasonable price.”
Those places in the area where people can sit, are really expensive, he adds. “In the afternoon time, there are very few places around here where people can go and have a cup of tea and a snack, so we thought why not create somewhere for people to do that, that is reasonably priced?” He says the aim of the festival is to attract those locals who are not their regular clients and reach out to them. “Mumbai is all about its sizzling pakodas and chais and that’s what people here like to the core of their heart, especially with the rains coming,” he explains. “After all, who wants to have Japanese food in the afternoon?” he asks
