While four FIRs were lodged by the police, three were lodged by a bus driver and officials of two hospitals. The FIRs were lodged against the mob that had ransacked government and private properties and set fire to nearly a dozen buses and damaged another 26 vehicles.

Violence had erupted in Modi Nagar after students from KN Modi Inter College took to the streets to protest the death of a fellow student who was crushed under a bus outside the college on NH-58.

Normalcy was restored in the area by Thursday afternoon with the heavy deployment of police, PAC and RRF personnel.

The FIRs against unidentified miscreants have been lodged under stringent sections of the IPC and the police are looking for the people involved in the violence.

Three different FIRs were filed for damaging and setting fire to public and private buses, damaging private hospitals, setting fire to the Niwari police post and a fire tender.

Modi Nagar station officer, Sundhir Tyagi, who was attacked with rods and sticks by the mob of students from KN Modi Inter College on Thursday, has also lodged an FIR against unidentified students and anti-social elements who attacked police and indulged in large-scale rioting.

“We have started investigations and identification of the culprits has started with the help of available photographs and video recordings. All those who will be identified will be booked for the incident,” SSP Raghubir Lal said.
