There is one movable police outpost of Government Railway Police in the long distance New Delhi-bound Kashi Vishwanath Express.

A head constable of GRP from Varanasi Cantonment railway station travels on duty with the General Diary (GD) to book the complaints of passengers.

Surprisingly, only one case of theft with a passenger was brought to the notice of this cop in the month of June. Later, the case was registered with the GRP at Cantt railway station here. While, thefts in trains is a routine feature which go un-reported.

There seems no end to the growing incidents of thefts in which railway passengers in different trains en- route from Jammu, Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to Varanasi are the victims. Both domestic and foreign passengers have been falling victim to thieves who strike at will on the trains.

Foreign tourists have been very often subjected of such incidents.

As many as 12 foreigners coming to Varanasi by different long route trains were deprived of their valuables while travelling in June and July. They lodged their complaints with GRP here.

According to sources, thieves stole belongings of six foreigners and 10 citizens in June while six foreigners and five Indians in July.

"Due to complicated legal system, a majority of theft cases are not being registered by victims with police as during travelling, it is practically not possible to register complaints and they simply bring it to the notice of cops, escorting the trains,” one of the passengers said.
