By delaying the project, the state government was denying irrigation water to local farmers, RJD MP Jagadanand Singh said.

The erstwhile RJD government had almost completed work at the reservoir in Kaimur and Rohtas districts before it was ousted from power. The NDA government must explain the delay as well as the Rs 60-crore expenditure on it, he told newsmen.

Singh, against whom an FIR was registered by the NDA government in 2005 for allegedly constructing the reservoir at the wrong place, said he has been cleared of the charge by the Supreme Court.

Bihar Water Resources Minister Vijendra Yadav had earlier this week released a white paper on the Durgawati Reservoir project and promised its completion by 2012.
