INDIAN RAILWAYS Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has given a heed to the 'crying need' of strengthening the railway enquiry system.
The IRCTC has come up with a new information system, to provide latest and correct information to the railway passengers about the trains and their reservation status.
Talking to HT Allahabad Live on phone, Chief Regional Manager (CRM), IRCTC, Lucknow, Devesh Mishra said, "The Corporation is introducing a system, where by dialling 139, the passenger will be able to get the entire information".
Mishra said, a passenger can seek the information by sitting anywhere in the
country.
For instance, if a person is in Allahabad and wants to know the position of the train in Delhi, he just have to dial 011-139 and his call will be considered as the local call.
While, if he wants to get the position of the train arriving at the station in his own city, he just have to dial 139.
A person can also dial the number from the mobile. On dialling this number, a passenger can also avail services including booking of hotels in some other city.
"The number will always be very accessible", he claimed. The number will be operated both manually as well as through computer.
For the purpose call centres are being set up at four places including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
"Tender has already been floated in this regard and the service will be open to the passengers by March 2007', he said.
In addition to this, the IRCTC is mulling over introducing Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) system.
