Road bridges to replace level crossings on WR
The four level crossings along Western Railway’s suburban line may soon be replaced with road overbridges. That’s Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s plan when she sanctioned around Rs 2.5 crore for the project during the Railway Budget 2009-10 announced on Friday.

Now the Western Railway (WR) is only waiting for the state authorities to cooperate and start construction.
Banerjee has also allocated funds to build escalators at city’s stations, to prepare an integrated security plan and build the railway heritage museum at Lonavla.
Commuters at Thane and Dadar can also expect better facilities, as the two stations will get grand makeovers.
The detailed financial document of the railway budget released on Saturday shows that about Rs 2.5 crore has been sanctioned to replace the level crossings at Santacruz, Borivli, Jogeshwari south and north and Virar with road overbridges to make rail commute faster on the western line.
A bridge has also been proposed at Bhayander, but no funds have been allocated for the same.
Banerjee has allotted Rs 5.6 crore to build eight escalators at four suburban stations on the Central Railway (CR).
This year, CR will get Rs 80 lakh for the project.
Even the WR will get Rs 80 lakh to build four escalators at two stations.
Work on the much-publicized Phase-I of the Rs 11.63-crore Lonavla regional railway museum project can also begin, as Banerjee has cleared Rs 30 lakh for it.
The budget has also sanctioned funds for an integrated security package for six stations on CR and 32 on WR in the city.
The budget has cleared Rs 50 lakh to build a battalion station for the Railway Protection Special Force at Thakurli station.
