A roadside bomb missed a police patrol in Baghdad, but killed three Iraqi civilians and wounded four more on Saturday, police said.

The victims were in two cars that were struck by the blast at 8.45 am on a highway in Baghdad's eastern Ghadir area, said Lt Ali Abbas.

Scores of Iraqis have been killed and wounded by bomb blasts that miss intended targets, such as Iraqi security forces and US-led coalition troops.

Another roadside bomb exploded at 8 am on a highway in eastern Baghdad, killing Iraqi two policemen guarding an oil tanker and wounding three others, Lt Bilal Ali Majid said. The tanker was not damaged.

Police reported that a US convoy was struck by another bomb at 7.45 am in eastern Baghdad.

The scene was sealed by American forces, but it was unclear if there were any casualties.
