Rohtak man dies owing to doctors' 'negligence'

A man died at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here on Sunday evening owing to the alleged negligence of doctors in the emergency ward.

The deceased is identified as Sandeep Kaushik, 25, a resident of Bohar village of the district. Enraged over the death, the victim's relatives created ruckus inside the hospital and allegedly manhandled doctors and security staff on duty. They were, however, prevented from disrupting law and order after police reached the spot.

Satish Kaushik, uncle of deceased, told the media that his nephew was brought to the PGIMS on Saturday noon after he complained of stomach pain. The doctors attending him in the emergency ward discharged him in the evening after declaring him fit.

"My nephew complained of pain on Sunday also and brought to the emergency ward but doctors on duty allegedly did not operate upon him and kept talking on cell-phone, leading to his death," Kaushik alleged. He said timely treatment could have saved his nephew's life.

PGIMS director Dr Chand Singh Dhull said: "The patient was brought on Saturday with the complaint of chest pain, stool and vomiting. Nothing serious was found in the test conducted on him and, thus, was discharged in the evening." On the death of patient in the emergency ward on Sunday, he said: "The patient was brought dead by his relatives."
