Karnataka government today announced a compensation of Rs one lakh each to families of passengers from the state killed in train mishap at Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh.

Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda also announced a compensation of Rs 25,000 to each of those injured.

The state has also deputed a team led by minister of textiles Varthur Prakash to the accident spot to assist those affected, Gowda said in a release.
The accident took place at 3.15 am when the Bangalore bound Hampi Express apparently overshot a signal and collided with a stationary goods train at Penukonda station in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, killing 14 people and injuring 35 others.
