Rs 10 lakh Kanshi Ram sports award for Raina, Chawla

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has honoured two cricketers from the state, Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla, with the Kanshi Ram International Sports Award which carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.

"Raina and Chawla, who hail from Uttar Pradesh, have been named for the award for their commendable role in taking India to the World Cup victory," said a release issued on Monday.

In a message sent to the two players, Mayawati has said: "You have done UP (Uttar Pradesh) proud."

Instituted in September 2010, the award has so far been conferred on sportspersons who brought laurels to the nation at last year's Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, and the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
