The 13th Finance Commission has approved a proposal to grant Rs 100 crore for training infrastructure in the minority-dominated district of Mewat, neighbouring Gurgaon.
Haryana industrial training minister Geeta Bhukkal said that under this project, eight new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Industrial Training Institutes for Women would be set up and four existing ITIs would be expanded in the next four years to create 4,500 additional seats.
The minister said that 19 ITIs would be upgraded into Centers of Excellence for multi-skilling and modular training covering multiple trades in individual trade sectors.
The cost to upgrade each ITI into a Centre of Excellence would be shared by the Centre and the State in the ratio of 75:25.
She said that 69 ITIs were being upgraded under various Centre-funded projects costing R178 crore.
Fifty-six new government ITIs have also been approved by the state government with a proposed seating capacity of about 24,000 students. Out of these, 23 new government ITIs have been opened.
Also, 22 more such institutes have been established by converting Vocational Education Institutes (VEIs) into it is.
Thus, a total of 45 new ITIs have been established since April 2005.
Bhukkal said that the project to expand 22 existing ITIs to add 9,700 seats has already been taken up, out of which 13 have been upgraded. The remaining nine ITIs are likely to be complete within one year.

{{/usCountry}}To provide training opportunities to the underprivileged sections of the society, she said,
17 expansion wings will be set up under the Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCSP) scheme, adding 4,240 seats for such students at ITIs at a cost of about Rs 60 crore.
Out of these, 13 wings have been made functional and the remaining are nearing completion.
The minister also said that 76 ITIs have been converted into 69 societies to provide them functional, financial and managerial autonomy.
These societies have been given wide powers to start short-term training courses, introduce testing and certification, grant honourarium to its employees and appoint faculty on a contract-basis to teach courses as per local needs.
