Rs 2.25-crore provision made to tackle bird flu

A PROVISION of Rs 2.25 crore has been made for preparedness and purchase of protective equipment and other activities involved in the prevention of bird flu in Madhya Pradesh.

This information was given today at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni at Mantralaya to discuss various measures for the prevention of spread of bird flu in the State.

Expressing satisfaction with the measures undertaken to prevent bird flu in the State, Sahni gave instructions to continue them in the future in order to prevent any untoward situation in the State.

Strict surveillance of transportation of poultry into Madhya Pradesh from bird flu affected states should be ensured so that infected poultry from those states were not dumped in Madhya Pradesh under any circumstances, the Chief Secretary stated.

Sahni directed all officers concerned to ensure proper cleanliness and hygiene at poultry farms in urban and rural areas. Animal husbandry department commissioner Dr Rajesh Rajoura informed the meeting that although there was no presence of bird flu in Madhya Pradesh yet, committees of officials had been formed as a precautionary measure.

Two awareness camps each would be held in all blocks of the State to inform general public about ways of preventing spread of bird flu, Rajoura informed.

The meeting was also attended by PWD PS Padamveer Singh, Forests PS Avani Vaish, health PS M M Upadhyay, PCCF (wildlife) P B Gangopadhyay, rural development PS Pradeep Bhargava, agricultural production commissioner Iqbal Ahmed, animal husbandry PS Ranjana Chaudhary, health commissioner Ashok Varnwal, home secretary Sarabjeet Singh and finance secretary A P Srivastava.
