Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav would unveil a Rs 500-crore beautification and development package for the state capital on party ideologue Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s birth anniversary on March 23.The package includes construction of Jai Praksh International Convention Centre, Janeshwar Mishra Park in Gomti Nagar and beautification of the historic Victotria Street in Old City.
Spread over 376 acres, the sprawling Janeshwar Misra Park would be developed at a cost of around Rs 168 crore. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), the nodal agency for the job, has already floated tenders for the project whose layout has been designed by the New Delhi-based prestigious School of Planning and Architecture (SPA).
“We will develop pathways, cycle and jogging tracks with a huge water body in the center besides public amenities like parking for vehicles, public toilets, drinking water and an exclusive play area for children. But nowhere are we going to touch a single tree on the land in the process,” said a senior official.
He said the SPA, which had earlier suggested relocating of some of the trees to make way for tracks, was asked to amend its drawings and it had accordingly made changes in the revised layout submitted by it.
Likewise, an architect has already been selected to give shape to the JPNIC at an estimated Rs 270 crore. The construction of this centre began in 2006 but the project was abandoned mid-way following a political change of guard in the state. “The convention centre would now be built on a much larger area and scale in Vipin Khand of Gomti Nagar,” said the official.

{{/usCountry}}The district administration and the LDA have held discussions with the shopkeepers for the revamp of Victoria Street and the state government has sanctioned Rs 40 crore for the project. The business community of the area raised the demand following facelift of the Hazratganj market during the BSP regime for a similar beautification of this historic road.
