The RSS on Saturday urged President APJ Abdul Kalam to uphold the capital punishment awarded to 2001 Parliament attack mastermind Mohd Afzal Guru.
The Sangh has passed a resolution on the second day of the three-day RSS national executive meet in Varanasi on Saturday, urging President Kalam to remember the sacrifices of the brave policemen, who foiled the Parliament attack, before deciding on the change of petition pending before him moved by Afzal's family.
The act would send a strong message to the world that India is no longer a "soft state" towards terrorism, former RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav told newspersons.
Condemning the efforts to secure clemency for Afzal, the Sangh considers it unfortunate that leaders of some political parties including the chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh are vying with each other to save an anti-national hardcore criminal for their immediate political ends, the resolution stated.
"It is in the fitness of the things that the apex court has categorically stated in its recent judgement that considerations of caste, religion and political loyalties are irrelevant and fraught with discrimination in granting clemency," it added.
"While the CM of Uttar Pradesh is busy issuing certificates of patriotism to terror outfits like SIMI, the Congress leaders in the same state are also busy arguing the case of lifting the ban on SIMI in the apex court," the resolution maintained.
The resolution further stated a minister of Andhra Pradesh found nothing wrong in visiting the house of a terrorist to console the latter's family immediately after the state police arrested him.

{{/usCountry}}Launching a scathing attack on the left parties and Congress, the Sangh resolution observed both these organisations have displayed their utter disregard for national security by passing a unanimous resolution in the Kerala assembly seeking parole for the dreaded terrorist Abdul Nazar Madani—the mastermind of terror attack at the BJP rally at Coimbatore in 1998, in which 60 people were killed.
"Even the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala have shown undue interest in extending various facilities to the terrorist. The RSS executive is of the view that a large section of our political establishment has compromised with the terrorists and is singing the tunes set by them," it added.
"That the Justice Thomas P Joseph Commission appointed by Kerala government to look into the massacre of Hindus at Marad in 2003 came out with a report squarely blaming UPA constituent Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for its direct complicity too reinforces this point only. The Sangh national executive demands that the IUML be immediately shown the way out of the Union cabinet," the resolution stated.
