RTI activist shot dead near Gujarat High Court

Gujarat-based well known environment and RTI activist Amit Jethva has been shot dead near Gujarat High Court, Ahmedabad by two motor cycle-borne unknown assailants.

Gujarat-based well known environment and RTI activist Amit Jethva has been shot dead near Gujarat High Court, Ahmedabad by two motor cycle-borne unknown assailants.

After firing, the assailants ran away from the place, said police. The incident took place around 8:45pm on Tuesday.

Jethva was based in Khambha in Amreli district and was running Gir Nature Youth Club. He was active on environment front and RTI.

He was working for conservation of wildlife, especially lions, in Gir area. He has also helped the police solve some cases relating to lion poaching

Recently, he had filed a PIL in the Gujarat High Court against illegal mining in Gir forest. Jethwa was very active in conservation of wildlife, especially lions, in Gir area.

Following his PIL, the authorities had cracked down on the illegal mining activities in Gir forest and other areas on Saurashtra coast.

Police inspector H.M. Kundaliya said Jethwa died on the spot after he was shot.

“His body was being sent for postmortem and search for the assailants was on,” Kundaliya said.
